Music Video Release Date: 2/14/12 (Valentine's Day)! Pre-Release Teaser Online: 1/22/12

So, we gave everyone a sneak peek at the entire music video last night at the Ark in Westphalia, but the video won't be released to the rest of the world until February 14th (Valentine's Day)... so what do you use to curb your appetite until then? You view THIS TEASER!

Thanks again to everyone who braved the wintery weather to come out to the Ark on Friday! It was really cool to have so many who haven't seen us before, and the sea of Silent Lapse apparel was very encouraging! God bless, and we'll be looking forward to unleashing the video to the world on 2/14, so until then...

Music Video For "The Wake": Filming Complete!! 11/29/11

TaylorVideo

As Scott mentioned in the October Update below, we filmed The Wake music video over Thanksgiving weekend. It was an aggressive schedule with setup all day Friday and shooting Saturday and Sunday from 8-6 and 9-5 respectively... a restful Thanksgiving weekend was not in our cards this year, nor for all the rest involved... So, what were our thoughts after the last frame was captured? AMAZING!

We worked with about 25 people ranging from makeup (I know, I didn't think we needed any either) to actors, camera crew, food ladies, behind the scenes cameras, lighting, extras and much more. Everyone did a great job, graciously taking care of their part, and Brett King (director) made our job easy with his flawless organization and vision. So much so, that our duties for the first day were whittled down to making sure the coffee pot was full... which was actually no easy task as we soon found. These people liked coffee... a lot.

After talking with the rest of the band I think it's safe to say that we were wandering around in a dream the whole day on day one, just watching these people so willingly and skillfully bringing our song to life in front of our very eyes. Quite a powerful experience for us, and one we'll never forget.

Sunday was the day we in the band were all looking forward to. We were to film the band performance side of the video that day. We came in expecting everything to be as great as the day before, but were pleasantly surprised when our expectations were blown out of the water yet again. The visuals were stunning and I remember thinking that it's going to be really hard for us to look bad on camera, so again, our job was made easy. We really can't wait to see (and for you to see) the whole thing all together! We know it's going to be great!

October Updates! 10/25/11

Greetings!

So, we played our show with the Finding Clyde, some good guys who put on a good show. And now, as difficult as it may be to see from a distance, we're really rolling on a couple important projects that we're really excited about.

First, our music video for The Wake is so very close to coming to fruition. With our friend Brett King, we went to check out our location, and it didn't take long on location to see that this really is going to be a quality, professional product for you to enjoy. Shooting will happen just after Thanksgiving. Stay tuned on what you can do to help us out.

And equally of note, writing for the new album is really picking up steam now. We're finding that we're much further along in the process than we initially realized. And I've got to say that some of the stuff that Mitchell has come up with has me (Scott) throwing superlatives around with reckless abandon. Suffice it to say, I'm extremely excited about where this is headed, and you should be, too. I think...

Get ready, cuz here stuff from Silent Lapse comes!

Silent Lapse: We're Back! 8/26/11

Whew!

Well, after our webhost stopped supporting our web format, we are happy to announce that we are back online. While it's still a work in progress, most of our functionality is back, so feel free to stay awhile.

Since the last update, The Ionia Free Fair was canceled, and our show along with it. While we were extremely disappointed, we can only applaud fair organizers for putting everyone's safety first and foremost. Your next chance to see us will be September 30th at The Loft in Lansing with Finding Clyde.

Until then, we'll be continuing to work in the studio and make progress writing the album. We're really excited about what we've written so far.

As always, stay tuned!

Ionia Free Fair Dates Updated 6/21/11

Hello!

We just updated the Show date for the Ionia Free Fair to be July 29th instead of... whatever we had before. There was a bit of confusion on this at first, but it all seems to be straightened out. We look forward to rocking with you again! It's been too long!

Also, we're moved into the practice space, so now we just have a few tweeks to do and we'll be in full writing/recording mode! We're extremely pumped about this! We've also been sending out to Internet radio stations lately and have had quite a good response so far from a multitude of stations based all around the world! Maybe you'll hear us on your favorite podcast soon! We are even working out interviews with some stations, so stay tuned for more information on that. This is an exciting time for us, and all this energy is just making us even more excited about writing the new album. See you soon!

What are we up to? 5/1/11

People visiting this site may have noticed a bit of a lapse (initially this pun was not intended, but afterwards I like it so much that it is now actually intended) in updates or much of anything. I'm here to fill you in on why that was the case:

Lately our main project has been building a practice/recording space. This has left less time for writing music or practicing, which is why we haven't been playing many gigs lately either. We do; however, have a gig scheduled at the Ionia Free Fair, which we've been playing the past couple years (always to a great resonse, and very much to our enjoyment), and we will more than likely have another gig in August. Check our"shows" page for details throughout the summer if you want to come out. We hope to see you there!

Our hope is that once this new building is done, we will be able to work quickly and efficiently on both new music and recording it. So, overall, it should contribute to getting the second album out even sooner than we originally expected. So where are we on it? We have the start of a few songs, but without having the time right now to spend on developing concepts, they are somewhat directionless at the moment. We can't wait to get back at it! We're thinking sometime this month or next we will be practicing in the new space and writing regularly again, so stay tuned!

Thanks to those of you who have been sending us questions and comments and we look forward to getting more music out for you!

Katatonia Show a Success!

Well, one of the highlights of the year for us has come and passed. Our show with Katatonia was a ton of fun and they sounded amazing, as could be expected. Scott, with his inhuman strength broke his mic stand while the intro tape was rolling, so we were left standing there waiting for another stand when the tape stopped... creating sort of an anti-climactic start to things. We were, however, able to get another stand and start the tape again, this time blasting into Reach right after it ended, giving the audience a proper Silent Lapse entrance. Our setlist was Reach, A Good Fight, and The Wake, which was quite refreshing since we normally don't play the first two if we have a shorter slot. Plus, people got to hear the new song (A Good Fight) in all its unreleased glory!

Speaking of new music, we will be taking fewer shows over the winter in order to focus on writing new stuff and constructing our new practice space. We will probably do a few random shows here and there, but this will be our main objective. We should be able to play some brand-new stuff at shows in the spring! We're all pumped to get back at the creation process again and show you what we've got!

Those are about all the updates I can think of right now, so thanks for checking in, and please, please, if you could, and if convenient, continue to rock!

Interesting Silent Lapse facts added to the "News" page!

If you want to know more about the creation of Birthright, or just random facts about the band, check it out! If there's anything else you've wondered, ask us at silentlapse@silentlapse.com. We'll be happy to respond and may put it up for the world to see!

Silent Lapse to Play the OSB Community Bank Battle of the Bands. Ionia Free Fair Gig - Cancelled.

Some good news and some bad news here.

We're a positive bunch, so I'll give you the good first: We were picked from multiple entries to play at the OSB Community Bank Battle of the Bands on July 24th in Brooklyn, MI! We are looking forward to having a good time with the fine people in Brooklyn and hopefully taking home first place!

Next, the Ionia Free Fair show on July 21st has been cancelled due to the sound system not being available for our scheduled time. We were quite dissappointed with this since it's one of our favorite gigs all year, and it's a great place to play as well as see a show. We were, however, told that we would have a guaranteed spot next year (with a sound system... ha ha), so mark it on your calendars and be ready for a good time apporoximately one year from now.

The Wake Music Video "Making Of" Documentary, Part 1

As you know, we're making a music video and documenting the process. There will be more of these to come as we get closer to the release of the official video. Enjoy!

Katatonia Tickets for Sale!

Tickets for the September 15th show with Katatonia at Blondies in Detroit are now for sale on our Shows page.

This is a big show with a lot of great bands, and it's one of Katatonia's few stops in the States ever. Tickets are being sold for $20 plus $1.50 for Paypal fee and shipping, so they'll be about as cheap as you can find them since we won't be charging a convenience fee. Thanks a lot for your support, and we look forward to rocking with you on September 15th!

Music Video - The Wake

We've started the process of making a music video for "The Wake"! We're extremely excited about this, and we'll be posting updates on this site on the progress so you can keep up with it.

We're in pre-production as of now, so a lot of details are up in the air at this point. We do know that it's going to have both band performance video as well as clips of the story that The Wake is telling. The next month or so will be spent developing ideas and a storyboard for the parts that are not live performance.

We couldn't be more enthusiastic about this project and the great people we'll be working with to complete it. We know it's going to be an awesome experience and amazing final product!

T-Shirts Now Available!

If you'd like a Silent Lapse shirt to wear around all your friends, you can get them on the Merch page. The "Seed of Hope" design is available in most men's t-shirt and women's fitted sizes. Thanks in advance for your support!

Silent Lapse supporting Katatonia in Detroit, and thanks!

First of all, the gig with Pop Evil on 4/16 was a lot of fun and a huge success for the band! We know it was because of our loyal fans and the great turnout in general for the show. The other bands did awesome, and we thank them as well for sharing their fans with us! We played well and only had only a minor technical difficulty: my (Mitchell's) guitar went out for the last 3rd of Seed of Hope, which just allowed me to "rock out" a bit more since I didn't have to worry about playing! The others in the band covered it nicely. Someday we'll have the perfect gig where nothing goes wrong equipment-wise, but until then...

Now for the big news: we're going to be opening for Katatonia in Detroit on September 15th at Blondies! We couldn't be more excited for this show, since Katatonia has become one of our favorite bands in the last two years, and their recent releases are some of the best music I've heard in a long time. It will be an amazing show! If you don't know who Katatonia is, check them out here: Katatonia on Myspace. We'll post more details as we get them and let you know when tickets are available. When they are, you'll be able to buy them direct from our site.

Promo photos available soon!

We had some photos taken for the website and promotion. We'll be posting the rest as we get them on the media page. Check back soon!

We love this album and really believe in it. We don't want a $10 charge to stand in the way of you hearing an album that we think is one of the best!
